Ocean Plastic
Plastic is a fantastic material, but it doesn’t belong out in nature. Yet, more than 8 million metric tons of plastic waste end up in the ocean each year – and that figure is increasing. At the exhibit, you can see how parts of the ocean literally flow with plastic to the detriment of the animal life that lives there. Some animals are suffocated in plastic, while others eat the tiny bits of plastic floating around, filling their stomachs with something they cannot live off.
You can also investigate what proportion of Danish herring have small bits of plastic in their stomachs and, if you want to know more about plastic in the ocean, you’ll find fascinating facts hidden in the wreck of an old boat.
